Casa Las Palomas

REDUCED NEW PRICE TO US$475,000 DOLLARS

Why Loreto? In the spring of 2008, the New York Times named Loreto “Mexico’s New Frontier.” NuWire Investor described it as the number one place to invest in Mexico. Charming, historic, friendly and safe, Loreto is a haven for eco-tourism, a mecca for sportfishing, and a magnet for semi-retiring boomers looking for a fresh and still affordable alternative to overcrowded beach resorts.

Why Casa Las Palomas? This architectural gem is ideally situated in the heart of old Loreto: a five-minute walk to the beach or the picturesque town square; a10-minute drive from the airport. Easy and frequent flights from the western U.S. and Canada mean you can be here within a few hours for maximum relaxation on your palapa-shaded deck, enjoying a spectacular view of the Sea of Cortez on your doorstep.

Casa: Completed in 2007, Casa Las Palomas was designed by a Canadian architect and built by a prominent Loreto contractor utilizing top local craftsmen. It was framed using double-wide concrete blocks with a center layer of Styrofoam, for optimal sound and thermal insulation. The casa stays comfortably warm in winter, cool in summer (with the help of air conditioners in all the main rooms). Doors are handmade solid hardwood, all windows are screened and secured with elegant wrought iron. Inside and out, hand-dyed concrete tiles give the appearance of traditional Mexican saltillo clay, but afford a much more durable finish. Eight-foot garden walls provide security without blocking views, thanks to the elevated foundation and 11-foot ceilings. Bedrooms are downstairs, living areas up to maximize daylight and views. Shady breakfast or lunch is ideal on the south-facing front balcony off the dining room; barbecue dinner or cocktails off the larger back deck overlooking the sea. From the lofty palapa roof deck, you can enjoy spectacular 360-degree views of the sierras, the sea and beautiful Loreto, including the tower of its historic mission.

Living Room: The cozy living room has an eleven-foot vaulted ceiling. French doors open to the back deck and spectacular views of the sea and Coronado Island to the north.

Dining Room:  Ideal for entertaining, the dining room is the focal point between kitchen and living room in the open-plan second floor. The palapa-shaded breakfast balcony faces south.

Main Deck: Through French doors from the kitchen, the 400-square-foot main deck has electrical and gas outlets – ideal for barbecue dinners or sunset drinks.

Kitchen: With plenty of sunlight and peakaboo views of Coronado over green palms and sparking sea, the cook will never complain of being stuck in this kitchen. Equipped with six-burner Bosch stove, deluxe Continental fridge, breakfast bar and custom cabinets.

Stairway: The doves on the border tiles give Casa Las Palomas its name. The stairwell is finished in traditional adobe, and the graceful mezzanine rails were created by a local artisan.

Front Hall: Decorative niches and archways make for an elegant front entrance. The stairway curves up to the living areas; guest bed/bath is on the left, master bed/bath is to the right and down two steps, creating the feeling of a private suite.

Master Bedroom: Spacious and quiet with a built-in niche for a king or queen bed, the master bedroom opens to its own tiled deck surrounded by eight-foot walls. Not shown, a private studio/office adjoins the bedroom – it can easily be adapted for use as laundry/storage, walk-in closet or even a third bedroom/nursery.

Master Bath: Beautiful palomas fly through this large and luxurious bathroom, from the double vanity’s backsplash to the curved shower enclosure.

Guest Bedroom: The large second bedroom looks out on the lush front garden. Plenty of room for a queen, king or up to three twin beds. Add a desk or reading nook in the bright bay window.

Guest Bath: The guest bathroom has a shower and pretty tiled vanity. Two doors allow access from bedroom and front hall.

Garden: Beautifully landscaped on two levels, the garden is designed to be eco-friendly with mostly desert plants that thrive with minimal water.

Small deck: The sunny front deck overlooks the garden, with glimpses of the sea and Carmen Island to the south.

Roof deck: Tiled and shaded by a large palapa, the rooftop deck is the place to be for sunrise views over Carmen Island, or sunsets over the Sierras de las Gigantas. Northward, the beaches sweep around a broad bay crowned by Coronado Island.
